General rant ahead

I am still hang up over Inception and reading the interpretation obsessively on the web? No, I am not going to reveal nor discuss it here since I think you (those who have yet to see it) would enjoy it more if you know it less.

Staying on top of the entertainment news. I love to read the entertainment blog. Mainly I keep tab with TV news such as Ausiello site, Kristin site (though she's not so active nowadays ) and various others. Other times, I read other entertainment blog. But never that Perez Hilton guy. I saw him in the Janice Dickinson show one boring day, and if even Janice thinks you are repulsive(ok, maybe not to that extent, but I do), then you  must be. I think his site is vile and his commentary is merciless. In turn I usually went and read something Trent (Pink is the New Blog). He is generally much more nice in his commentary regarding these things even if he does get too obsessive with Britney (I updated this last sentence in. Boleh pulak tertinggal and leave sentence hanging).

Which brings me to this. As much as I love drama gossips, I hate it when it involved a marriage. While I think Malaysian artists is just as bad in the scandals as the Hollywood one, at least the artists or usually the MISTRESSES does not plaster themselves on the paper to get fame or money. Maybe sebab compare to the entertainment business here, our entertainment reporters thinks they are the shizzz and artists should be paying them for interview instead, while over there exclusive interviews is something highly sought and they will pay millions to get one measly gambar wedding.

Let me rant for a while: Oi journalist entertainment Malaysia yang duk nak kecik hati tak tentu pasal kenapa artist tu tak jemput kau bile wedding die. Ikut suke dia la kan. Dah itu kan wedding dia, bukan press conference. Which is why Pancaindera is my weekly paper of lulz , not for the writer tales of the artist, but because of the 'journalist' so called entitlement issues bile die tak dapat exclusive interview/pics/news. Idiotic. The lots of them.

Anyway, rant of the general idiotic masses of Malaysian entertainment journalist finished. I am starting with the tabloids and general public of the Hollywood when a marriage scandal erupted. It made great news, yes. Some entertaining read.

On the other hand, it is just something I read and discarded afterward. Why demanded the artists who had cheated on their spouses to make public apology to the general public? Ape kena mengena dengan kau? There is no need for apologies or regret being issued in the media. Those thing should be settled only in the family and closest friends circle. All we should care about is their work. If their personal lives is tainting their work, then maybe we can taunt them a bit in a review and stop looking at their work. Like the Mel Gibson case. I don't believe just because he is a racist ass, I should not be watching his movies anymore. Apocalypto suffered in part of his Jewish drunken rant, and it should not be so. It was a pretty good movie. Not as epic as I like it to be, but still it is entertaining.

I guess the world is not perfect. More so the entertainment world.

Dils noticed that Malaysian artist punyer wedding punyer gah masuk Nona, majalah wanita sana sini, front page of the entertainment news, bile divorce one measly paragraph in the newspaper and  few months, later 2 page interview in Pancaindera with predictable title like "Saya tabah menghadapi kehidupan sebagai janda" , " Saya menerima status saya sebagai ibu muda tunggal. Kehidupan saya sekarang adalah untuk anak saya".

Make Up Entry #4: Kisah Kedai Tomyam

Wednesday, July 7, 2010 Posted by dueng 2 comments
I was with wifey when she was in Dungun for her job interview that we encountered a classic case how Malay owned shop just plainly throwing rudeness to our face.

It was dinner time and by God, we was hungry. We stopped by at a seafood/tomyam/masakan panas restaurant which you could find aloooottt in east coast. The restaurant that we choose was a good appearance restaurant, a clean one at that. That does score few point with me. We take a seat and we wait for the waitress. And the tragedy enfold:-

1) The waitress couldn't speak properly. She mumble and fumble along the conversation.

2) No air buah! But in the menu was stated all sort of air buah including air kelapa. When I asking what other air buah not available, she just asked me to order any air buah and she will then tell me if the air buah available or not. And she said it rudely.

3) After placing our order, the waiting time just killing us. We have to wait up to 15 minutes for our drinks.

4) The food finally arrived after 45 minutes. But my sotong goreng tepung wasn't there. The sotong was done for the day. It's a seafood restaurant but not even 9.30 p.m. and your seafood already done? WTF!

5) I try to place order for kerang bakar. But the waitress not even bother to look at our table. I finally called the guy who deliver the food to our table but he was too busy with delivering order and ask me to place my order to the guy at the bakar-bakar station.

6) The restaurant not even half full of customers and almost half of the customers didn't get their drinks even after 30 minutes.

7) The price is not the most expensive in town but it did make me feel cheated for the service.

8) The food quality is so-so. I asked for sup perut but there were only like 6-7 thinly sliced perut.

As what I observed, classic seafood/tomyam/masakan panas restaurant owned by Malay could have any of below things to happen:

1) Dirty floor

2) Kucing kurap is around

3) Tight face waiter/waitress

4) "Ada duit kecik tak?"

5) No greetings or smile thrown

6) Painfully slowly prepared food

7) Waiter/waitress that busy with handphone/chit chat/watching TV

8) Waiter/waitress that give you nasty look when you enter the restaurant

Please...add more in comment section.

I hugely disappointed by the same group of people who give you nasty racist remarks when we preferred Chinese or Indian restaurant when the same group of people couldn't deliver good service. These people moaning that Malays should help Malays but it wasn't right to help Malays if they didn't even want to help themselves.

Otherwise, I will keep looking for good eatery..I don't care about who owned it or operated it. I just want to enjoy my food. When will these people start picking up instead of moaning around?

The story of Phobe Prince and many others like her

Tuesday, April 6, 2010 Posted by Dils 3 comments
A few days ago I was saddened to learn of the Phoebe Prince (pic below) case. It happened in the U.S, yes, and most definitely I do not know the girl, but the tragedy struck a chord in me.

The gist of the story is, Phoebe an Irish girl moved to the U.S, Massachusetts last year and started school there. She was incredibly pretty and smart and coupled with the fact that she is new and her lilting Irish accent, made her a hit among the boys. She dated briefly a football player who's a senior there which causes the ire of the popular older girls in the school. Slurs hurled, harassed constantly and stalked in real life and in the Facebook. One day in January after a Red Bull can was thrown at her direction, she probably think she had enough and ended her life by hanging herself with a scarf in her closet.

And these girls that meted out these bullying obviously born without conscience, continue to terrorize her in her death and left hurtful vicious comments on her Facebook memorial page.

And that last act that appalled me. Girls can be very cruel. But so cruel to the point of you are not sorry at all when someone is dead, and write "Accomplished" in her memorial page. It is incomprehensible.
Just so you know, bullying is not constrained to just physically harassing a person. It can be by verbally abusing them, spreading rumours and isolating the person. While I have to freely admit that some girls are prone to talk shits about people, there are some people that can go to the extreme that hurt the most.

I would say I have been both the giving and receiving end of this type of things.

In secondary school, while not really popular, I do hang about in the popular groups. And sometimes the things young girls think as justice are actually bullying. Openly laughing at the people who are different than us, played tricks on the targeted girls (e.g. give letters to the girls supposedly penned by a some guy or even forced a guy to join in our idiotic plan and asked the girl to meet this guy because he like her, which he will then string along and gave us the letters for our amusement. Damn, we were evil bitches) And usually the worst one is where everyone is not allow or do not want to talk or associate with the person. I would say that the worst one because like I said, I had experience both the receving and giving end of the sticks plus minus some other things I talked about earlier. Those can break a girl spirit.

The thing is all that I had done above, some mean, some are done in good fun , all of us know there is a line somewhere. Someone would have a guilty conscience and remind the others to stop doing this, its killing the other person. And we stopped. We even apologized, to some. And when I got the receiving end of the bullying, it was hellish. It was hellish for me morning and night. I become bitter, and distrustful to everyone. Its hard. I like to think of it as karma, but I do also think I was never that bad. But maybe to the person I openly sneered at, I was that bad too. Who knows? However while the silent treatment and sneering continues, I just go on and take action to go and remove myself somewhere else for respite. Many other people do not have these options. I guess Phoebe believed she does not have these options to and she is much more younger and vulnerable. And the bullying in the western world is more terrible than what we Asians counterpart experience.

I only remembered once when I was in Australia, in my class there was a big bully. He terrorized the lower grades (grade 1,2,3 also known as standard in our Malaysian school system) in the school. I remembered he will not hesitate to give a blow or a punch to anyone even without reasons. The schoolchildren whispered around that he have older brothers who beat people up too, so nobody dare messes with him. There was a particular incident, I can't remember what had happened to cause the bully to act angrily toward this boy, but it was the first time I seen him in his full blown rage. We were lining up to go into class, the bully pummeled the boy to the ground and with flaming cheeks he casually dragged the poor boy by the hair into the nearby woods to I guess beat the hell out of him even more. Everyone was dumbstruck and silent and nobody dare to say anything. This was happening when I was eight. Imagine the violence if say, we were 15 at the time.

What I guess I am trying to say is, the physical does hurt. It hurt as much as the verbal abuse. While boys usually more prone to receive the physical threat of bullying, the girls are usually attacked verbally or shamed. And today generation are now growing up with Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, Blog even. The ability to update to thousand of people in your network in a blink, the attack may even be more devastating. The ability to spread rumours to wide reaching audience with the supposed thinking it can be anonymous, and sensationalized and you won't be in any trouble. Before this name smear maybe contained to one area, but with the Internet, everything changed. I do not have to explain more, many of you are Internet savvy enough to know the truth.

Right now the bully are being charged and facing punishment, but many argue is that enough? What about the adults, the teachers and the parents who let the bully continue to terrorize. Its hard to see what had gone wrong. Usually a person who like to hit somebody is associated with parents that hit their kids too. But blaming and sneering and rumour spreading. Many come from respectable background with conscientious parents. Maybe it comes to where does the blame end and what you are going to do about it to make sure your children or nephews or nieces grow up to be a people without malice or at the very least know when to stop and what is right and what is wrong

And to question yourself, do you yourself do these things and don't you know when to stop?

Dils talks of serious stuffs. Wow! But really, every time she looked at Phoebe Prince lovely picture, her heart felt like breaking, knowing that such a beautiful smart girl had been driven to the extreme because of bullying. Her not so somber thoughts is at witherthorne.blogspot.com
